UPDATE: Ypsilanti PRIDE…in Ann Arbor?

I will admit that I’m looking forward to the demise of the Ann Arbor News, if only so that I don’t have to read more headlines like this one:

Residents in Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor beautify their cities

Only the Ann Arbor News would find it necessary to…… insert Ann Arbor into one of their precious few positive articles about Ypsilanti.

Ypsilanti city and township have a long history with Ypsilanti PRIDE, an annual community-wide volunteer clean-up day originally started as a civic improvement project by a group of graduates of another Ypsilanti institution, “Leadership Ypsilanti.”  Ypsi PRIDE has grown over the years to encompass many volunteers and several dozen clean-up and beautification projects in multiple neighborhoods across both the city and township.

Downtown Ypsilanti was just one of the many Ypsi PRIDE sites, and flower planting was one of many projects.  In contrast, downtown Ann Arbor was apparently the only site and flower planting the only activity for the “21st Annual Ann Arbor Downtown Blooms Day.”

This report displays once again the height of Ann Arbor-centrism and AArrogance that became the hallmark of AA News reporting, which is just one of the reasons the paper is leaving us in July.
