Pete Hoekstra, Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire Man

This MI Designated Conservative was once a fan of Congressman Pete Hoekstra. I once cast my ballot in a primary election to nominate him to be our next Governor. No more.

Mr. Hoekstra began this campaign with an embarrassingly awful SuperBowl ad. True to form, he is ending this primary season with an ad straight out of the Barack Obama/Nancy Pelosi/Harry Reid playbook.

I will not dignify it with a link.

Mr. Hoekstra has proved beyond all doubt to be an inept and ham-handed campaigner. His years of running virtually unopposed in a 95% MIGOP district have not served him well.

All he has in his tiny arsenal is mud-slinging and blatant falsehoods.

Mr. Hoekstra, you have run as lousy a primary campaign for U.S. Senate as you did for Governor in 2010.

Should you secure enough Democrat crossover votes in Tuesday’s primary to defeat your more conservative opponents, I would like to make a prediction:

Should Pete Hoekstra become the MIGOP nominee for U.S. Senate, he will run a lackluster campaign against Do Nothing Debbie Stabenow, and will lose by 5 points in November – even as the state leans to the right to give Mitt Romney his margin of victory.

Go home to your Washington, D.C. law/lobbying gig, Mr. Hoekstra.

The very last thing we need in 2012 is another Big Government RINO in the U.S. Senate.

So utterly stupid only Levin, McCain and Graham could’ve come up with it

The US Senate is voting on a bill so utterly stupid that only Senators Carl Levin, John McCain, and Lindsay Graham could have thought it a good idea:

The Senate is going to vote on whether Congress will give this president—and every future president — the power to order the military to pick up and imprison without charge or trial civilians anywhere in the world. .. The power is so broad that even U.S. citizens could be swept up by the military and the military could be used far from any battlefield, even within the United States itself.

The worldwide indefinite detention without charge or trial provision is in S. 1867, the National Defense Authorization Act bill, which will be on the Senate floor on Monday.  The bill was drafted in secret by Sens. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) and passed in a closed-door committee meeting, without even a single hearing.

In support of this harmful bill, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) explained that the bill will “basically say in law for the first time that the homeland is part of the battlefield” and people can be imprisoned without charge or trial “American citizen or not.” Another supporter, Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) also declared that the bill is needed because “America is part of the battlefield.”

The solution is the Udall Amendment; a way for the Senate to say no to indefinite detention without charge or trial anywhere in the world where any president decides to use the military. Instead of simply going along with a bill that was drafted in secret and is being jammed through the Senate, the Udall Amendment deletes the provisions and sets up an orderly review of detention power. It tries to take the politics out and put American values back in.

For once this Designated Conservative entirely agrees with the ACLU and liberal neighbor Mark Maynard on an issue!  Please call your U.S. senators today and tell them to vote “No!” on S. 1867, the National Defense Authorization Act unless these offensive and unconstitutional detention provisions are removed.

America needs a President who is a little more Like Sarah….

Go Sarah!

So many mainstream news sources are touting polls showing Gov. Sarah Palin as receiving only tepid support in a possible run for the Republican Presidential nomination in 2012.

What a shock, after so many of those same programs have conducted the most egregious and nasty smear campaign against a national political figure since William Randolph Hearst!

This Designated Conservative is certainly not set on any one candidate for 2012, but…

Help solve Rick Santorum’s Google problem

To learn more about conservative presidential candidate Rick Santorum, check out his Facebook page or visit

A Rick Santorum fan is trying to help repair a problem with Google Search caused by a liberal hacker who is manipulating Google’s ranking system to bury Rick’s official site links under a mountain of Leftist nastiness:

Rick Santorum is a God-fearing man who wants to save unborn children and protect traditional marriage. Because of this, radical left-wing activists launched a Google-bombing campaign so that people searching for his name will find pages full of vile, disgusting filth instead.

What we can do as Christians is to fight back with a Google-bombing campaign of our own. We need to post as many links as we can to (his real site), to help it rise in the search engine ranks and beat the fake sites.

If you have control over any websites, blogs, facebook pages, or anything like that, post a link to, and help fight back against the gay agenda.

The Designated Conservative would like to thank our loyal readers for carrying this blog up and over 20,000 pageviews.

I would like to thank President Obama for providing so much fodder for conversation.

However, the website for this blog is “dcon2012,” so it will be important to ensure that Pres. Obama becomes Citizen Obama in November of 2012 on the fourth anniversary of the founding of this site.

Misunderstanding Marriage’s Purpose Imperils Its Future

Reposted from 8/2010 – worth a second read in response to the decision to abandon the Defense of Marriage Act by the Obama Administration

The Designated Conservative has commented on the gay marriage debate before (see Gay Marriage and the Gospel, the Subprime Marriage Crisis, and even more posts on this topic), but the federal District Court Judge in San Francisco’s recent ruling overturning the popular will of the voters of California – substituting his one “supervote” for millions of conservative residents of that state – has put me in mind to address the issue from a slightly different direction.

The following lays bare the fallacies and flawed logic of the Judge’s ruling – which we hope will provide the foundation upon which the U.S. Supreme Court will rebuild the 5,000 year old protective structure around marriage as a sacred union between one man and one woman.

An Unconstitutional Presidency and the (Non) Defense of Marriage

So, President Obama has taken yet another step into unconstitutional, banana republic territory by directing the Department of Justice and Attorney General Eric Holder to cease defending the federal Defense of Marriage Act in court.  For more on this Designated Conservative‘s view on the gay marriage debate, click here or visit:

THE SOUTH END (Wayne State University; Detroit, Michigan) published an excellent article on this topic today (excerpts below):
